It was a peaceful and calm night when Sayuri finally got to the river she was looking for. Now she had enough time to take a little break and maybe to take a short bath. The dog demon sat down and leaned her back against an old tree and closed her eyes slowly. She felt more tired than ever but didn’t know why. Her day hadn’t be so tiring, she had only been walking, looking for Naraku, something which was getting more and more difficult lately.
‘‘Maybe it’s time to make a little break in this search…’’ – She thought. – ‘‘I keep loosing and loosing his scent and it seems to be inevitable.’’
The idea of loosing the only way to get to her past was disappearing and this caused a strong feeling of sadness and anxiety in Sayuri. She opened her eyes once again, looking into the darkness of the forest while remembering a past experience.
FLASHBACK
Sayuri went out of her father's castle to go for a walk. The moon was shining brightly and the stars were dancing around it cheerfully and gorgeously. A soft breeze caressed the girl's skin and silver hair when she went to the lake a few miles from the castle placed. She moved around carefully between the trees shadows while she entered the dark forest.
After walking for a while she reached the lake she wished to see so badly. It was a beautiful place where she could just think about her stuff without anyone interrupting her. She usually sneaked out at night to be alone since she didn't like her father being so overprotective with her. He always told her to be careful and not to abandon the castle without him escorting her, but as a normal little girl, Sayuri just loved freedom and adventures. But there was something strange on that night. Although there was nothing to be seen, the little demon felt like someone else was with her. She looked around more than once but there was nothing to be seen. She sat down under a tree and leaned her back against it while hugging her knees against her chest. Suddenly she saw something or better to say, someone. It had long hair and its colour reflected the moonlight. Sayuri's eyes opened widely as she saw that beautiful hair colour which was quite similar to hers. She tried to stand up and discover who this being was, but before she could say or do something, the other being was looking at her.
She realized it was another demon, a male one, a bit older than her but not too much. The little girl made some steps forward but she stumbled with a little rock and fell down on the ground. When she looked up she felt the boy's eyes staring at her before he jumped into the forest and disappeared. Who could this demon be? Sayuri did not really care about who or what it was, but for the first time in her life she felt like there could be someone else in her life besides her father.
END OF FLASHBACK
‘‘Stop thinking about this Sayuri, it belongs to the past.’’

The river flowed and splashed up against the bank. Shikyo walked along the river side still in search of jewel shards. He had not found a jewel shard in quite some time. As he walked along the river, water kept misting in his face. It was a calming feeling and it relaxed him. As he was walking, he caught the scent of another demon. In fact, it was the scent of another dog demon off in the distance. He walked in the direction of the scent.
"Maybe it's a demon I can get a jewel shard from." Shikyo thought
As he walked towards the scent, he could see the demon off in the distance. From what he could see, this demon was not a threat and therefore he would not have to get into a fight. He also did not think that she would have a jewel shard either so he was not going to bother trying to start anything. He decided that he would keep walking to the demon. As he caught up to the demon, he walked up to where she was. He looked at her.
"So, what are you doing way out here by yourself?" Shikyo asked

Sayuri kept loosing herself in her thoughts, trying to not remember things which could end being painful. One of those memories was her mother, she did not really remember her and the only thing she had from her was the necklace she always conserved. She was about to speak something out when someone interrupted her. She looked up and recognized the being standing in front of her. Sayuri had already noticed the presence of another demon but didn’t really care since she wasn’t ever looking for problems so there was no need to start a fight.
‘‘So, what are you doing way out here by yourself?’’ – The other dog demon asked.
The girl could not really understand why he was talking to her. At first she thought of the possibility that there was someone else behind her, but that idea was one of the most stupid ones she ever had.
‘‘Excuse me?’’ – Sayuri asked slowly. – ‘‘Why should I answer your question? Do we know each other?’’
It was not the girl’s intention to sound rude, but she just was not used to talk to other people. She had always been a solitary being since her father died, that’s why it was kind of difficult for her to form new relationships with others.

After Shikyo asked his question, it looked as if she was in deep thought about something. As he stood infront of her she responded kind of rudely, but he did not let it bother him. Shikyo was not going to start a fight with her. There was not a point to start a fight. Even if she had a jewel shard, Shikyo didn't think that he could bring himself to take it. There was something different about her that made him not want to take it even if she had it. Her scent was the scent of a dog demon and maybe that was the case, but he wasn't sure why he got that feeling.
"Hey, I'm trying to be polite. Let's start over. Hey, I'm Shikyo. What's your name?" Shikyo asked

Sayuri could see something in his eyes changing. He was looking at her in a different way than other demons did. Normally the rest of the beings used to dislike her because of being and albino dog demon. With the time she got to ignore this fact and just accept herself as she was, not really caring about the other thoughts anymore.
‘‘That sounds much better now.’’ – She answered after Shikyo introduced himself. – ‘‘My name is Sayuri.’’
There was no need in being rude, was there? Shikyo was trying to be polite anyways; it could not be so difficult after all… But he was a stranger, was it really a good idea to let him know a bit more about her? How could she know he wasn’t one of Naraku’s subordinates? Nevertheless, there was something about him which made him familiar, probably his scent; the scent of another dog demon.

When he introduced himself, she seemed a little uneasy. She slowly seemed to be accepting him rather than thinking that he was a threat. It was almost if she was self-conscience about something. Shikyo looked at her and thought that she was quite pretty. He didn't stop for even a second to judge her. He thought that she was pretty the way that she was. Being an albino dog demon made her unique and Shikyo liked that about her. It seemed that she had a quiet personality and didn't like to speak much or maybe that was just the way she was around strangers. He decided that he would stay and talk with her for a while. There was something about her that made him want to stay around.
"So what is a pretty lady such as yourself doing out here?" Shikyo asked

‘‘Pretty…’’
That Word resounded in her mind again and again. No one had ever said she was pretty except her father. But what else could a father tell to her daughter? All parents see their children pretty or cute, don’t they? Maybe there was nothing in those words; maybe it was normal for Shikyo to say those things.
‘‘I’m just taking a short break.’’ – She answered softly.

Shikyo looked at her and he was stuck staring at her beauty. He thought that she was very beautiful. He was never the kind of person to just come out and tell someone that they were pretty. He was a little embaressed when he said it.
"Ugh, now why did I have to go and say that im so stupid." Shikyo thought to himself
She looked like she was thinking of something, but Shikyo wasn't going to be a bother. He was thinking that she probably wanted to just be left alone.
"I'm sorry for saying that if it scared you. I'll stop bothering you now." Shikyo said

Sayuri looked at him a bit surprised when she saw a light blush on the boy’s cheeks. Why was he blushing now? She could not really understand him, but she didn’t want him to feel bad for something which did not really matter at all.
‘‘You’re not bothering me, it’s ok.’’
She looked up into the sky and watched the stars closely. There were no clouds that night and a soft breeze was caressing the girl’s skin, waving her silver hair in a slow tempo.
‘‘But I’ll go in a while anyways, maybe we’ll be able to meet somewhere else.’’ – Sayuri smiled lightly.
