It was almost midday and it had been a week since Sayuri last found a trace which could guide her to Naraku’s place. She had arrived to the Slayer’s village, now transformed in a bunch of ruins… It was kind of a hot day and the girl was not feeling very good since she was quite sensible to warmth. Nevertheless some clouds were appearing in the north part of the land, so it was about to rain in an hour more or less.
‘‘It’s going to be a problem if it rains…’’ – She muttered to herself.
Indeed, Naraku’s scent could disappear in the middle of the rain and that was a big problem for her. She went slowly on her knees and touched the ground.
‘‘Dry…’’

It was a rather cold day and the wind had picked up a bit. Sesshomaru was walking through the forest that led up to a nearby village. His search for Naraku had kept coming up dry. He walked along the forest and the village appeared in sight. There was a big log fence that used to stand there but the whole village was in ruins. Sesshomaru figured that it was probably Naraku's doings. As he appoached that village, he caught the scent of a nearby demon. Infact if was a dog demon. He walked into the village and the demon was standing there in the ruins. Sesshomaru stopped and examined the dog demon for a second. He was just passing through and she was in the way of him. If she was wise she would let him though without hastle.
"Demon! Move away if you don't wish to be slain." Sesshomaru said

Sayuri got up calmly after she heard the other demon threatening her. She had been sensing him for some time but she never expected ‘‘that’’ demon to be so… harsh? A soft breeze waved her hair away while she turned around slowly to face the male demon.
‘‘You again?’’ – She asked looking at him from up to down and vice versa.
Sayuri did not like the tone he used when he talked. Such self-confident and arrogant beings made her want to puke. But he was strong and if they started fighting, both could come out quite injured, so it was better to reserve the strength for Naraku.
‘‘I was here first, move to the left and just walk away.’’

Sesshomaru noticed her examining him and he expected her to just move aside and let him pass. Instead she turned to him and said that. He stood there as his hair blew softly in the wind. Her words angered him and as it seem, she was trying to start a fight with him. Sesshomaru stood up straight without any fear in his eyes. His Tokijin close by his side ready to be used. It had been sometime since it has been used. Most of the demons he has faced have been weak and pitiful. She was much stronger than those vermen.
"You would be so foolish and choose to fight?" Sesshomaru asked provokingly

Sayuri put all her will to not start laughing. His words and his angry face made her want to laugh without ever stopping. A little smile could be seen but the girl removed it immediately when she saw the demon’s eyes. Of course he was not joking, he never did, but she never expected to end in a fight with him.
‘‘Fight you say?’’ – She asked. – ‘‘You’re the only one who’s provoking.’’
It was not a good moment for fighting. Since she was an albino dog demon, warmth and sun were not her best allies in battle. But she was too stubborn to just let him go after offending her with his ‘superior’ attitude.
‘‘Withdraw your words.’’

Of course Sesshomaru knew that he was provoking her, but he is not the kind of person to ever back down. Sesshomaru would never withdraw his words. Instead, her telling him to withdraw his words only made him angrier. He wasn't looking for a fight, but if it was a fight she was looking for he would be happy to assist. He figured that it would just be a quick fight anyways, but nonetheless it was still stalling his time finding Naraku. He didn't have all the time to fight sensless battles. He gave her a hard look.
"Your only stalling my time to find Naraku. Now move aside." Sesshomaru said

When she heard Sesshomaru talking about Naraku, some things changed in her mind. He wasn’t one of his subordinates after all, something which started to be quite of logical. He was getting mad and Sayuri could understand why, but they had been ‘‘discussing’’ for half an hour and there were approximately 20 minutes left before it started raining.
‘‘It’s too late for…’’ – She started, but could not finish.
Someone attacked her with a ‘‘fire beam’’ which the dog demon avoided easily by moving calmly to the side. The fire did not reach Sesshomaru and the girl turned to face that creature called, 'Jaken'.
‘‘Don’t tell Lord Sesshomaru what he can do or what he can’t, you’re just a huge amount of trash compared to him!’’
Sayuri looked at that green being a bit surprised by his words before noticing a little human girl walking towards them together with a two-headed dragon demon. It was quite rare to see human interacting with demons, but that girl seemed to be different from the other humans.
‘‘Hmph…’’ – A smile went across her face. - ‘‘Acting like he doesn't care for anyone, but in the end he's the opposite huh?’’ - She asked herself.
She gave the little girl a warm smile before facing Sesshomaru, who was probably getting more and more annoyed. His eyes were looking at her with anger, or at least that's how it looked like. --------------

As her words were just coming out of her mouth, a blaze a fire appeared. Jaken was a fool for attacking a demon which was cleared stonger than him. He was also a fool for bringing Rin into this. He should have just stayed clear let alone attack the dog demon. Now Sesshomaru had someone to protect for this threat.
"Jaken. Don't be foolish. As you can see your opponent is much stronger than yourself. Now make yourself useful and hide Rin." Sesshomaru said
This battle was useless and he didn't want to engage in a senseless battle. He wanted to save his energy to Naraku or Inuyasha. Those two were his real enemies. Sesshomaru was making it clear that he wasn't interested in this battle. He had not even put his hand on his sword and wasn't even in a ready position.
"I'll ask once more. Move aside." Sesshomaru said

Rin was being protected once again, which made Sayuri feel more relieved, since a little girl like her would not survive in the outside world all alone. Maybe Sesshomaru was a total jerk, but at least he wasn’t like other demons that just killed humans for pleasure. Rin was safe, a human life was safe and that was the only thing that mattered.
Sayuri was about to hide her stubbornness for one time and just ignore the dog demon’s words, letting him go. Nevertheless the words did not come out. Before she could open her mouth a water drop fell on her cheek.
‘‘F**k…!’’
This was not really what she was planning to say on the beginning but a problem had appeared. It was starting to rain and Naraku’s awful scent was disappearing. The female demon knew the evil hanyou would use that chance to hide in darkness and make it more difficult for Sayuri and the others to find him.
‘‘...’’ – Sayuri bit her lower lip in anger. – ‘‘I knew this was going to happen and I was so foolish I didn’t avoid it!’’ – She thought.

As Sesshomaru was protecting Rin, he didn't hear the dog demon say anything. What was worse was rain was about to hit and Naraku's scent that Sesshomaru worked so hard to find, would dissapear. Judging by her silence, she was going to let him pass without a fight. This was good because he didn't have time and didn't want to waste the energy on this fight. Nonetheless, he still had to keep moving forward because Naraku's scent was disapearing fast. Before he could even say anything a few rain drops hit the ground and then hit his face. Before long, it was raining hard. Now that Naraku's scent was almost totally gone, it would make it even harder to find it in the darkness and rain. Sesshomaru knew that it was time to move forward and find Naraku.
"Damn! The scent is disapearing." Sesshomaru said outloud

Sayuri’s left hand went through her hair while a sigh came out from her lips. This was the most uncomfortable situation she had ever been in. She knew Sesshomaru would accuse her for making him waste his time, which wasn’t really true since she did not retain him in any moment.
‘‘Damn! The scent is disappearing!’’
Rin looked at Lord Sesshomaru with a sad expression. Sayuri deduced the girl didn’t like to see his ‘protector’ in a bad mood. The female demon could also understand Sesshomaru’s actual feelings. But what was he going to do now? Would he start a fight with her just to make his ire vanish? Sayuri meditated about this possibility twice and thought it was better to just disappear and forget about this encounter with the dog demon. Nevertheless, something made her stay where she was.
‘‘Not only the scent is disappearing, we’ve also got company.’’ – Sayuri commented while pointing to the sky.
A large amount of demons were ‘flying’ towards them. Although it was raining, their scent was so strong that Sayuri could recognize it was Naraku’s. The evil one had probably done that because he wanted to gain even more time, which would probably happen.
‘‘You need to hide.’’ – She toldRin, not really caring about what Sesshomaru could say against her words.

As the rain was coming down and Naraku's scent was almost masked completely, Sesshomaru could smell Naraku's scent getting closer. It smelt like hundreds of demons. He saw that the other dog demon had noticed that scent as well. This wasn't the time to fight with her, but rather form an allience with her for now. Before she spoke Sesshomaru had pulled out his Tokijin getting ready to engage. Then she spoke. She also told Rin to go hid, but Sesshomaru knew that she wouldn't listen to the dog demon.
"Jaken. Take Rin and find a safe place to hide." Sesshomaru said
He didn't look back as Jaken grabbed Rin's hand and took off out of the village and into the forest. He stood there and moved only his eyes to the dog demon. She was stareing at the horde of demons coming towards them as well as he was.
"We will have to finish this later." Sesshomaru said to the dog demon
His eyes moved back to the oncoming horde of demons.

[[ Gah, I should have joined this sooner. >> I need to remember that Rin always follows Sesshoumaru. xD ]]
"But --" Rin said in protest as Jaken grabbed her hand, but she didn't allow her to speak anymore. She swiftly decided that it was best to get out of the way, so that Lord Sesshoumaru wouldn't have to be concerned about her. She allowed herself to be pulled away by the green demon, glancing back as a minuscule frown tugged at her lips.
"Be careful, Lord Sesshoumaru!" With that, she broke into a dash to trail closely after Jaken.

It was evident that Rin would not listen to Sayuri, but thankfully Sesshomaru had coincided with her and had ordered Jaken to hide Rin and to protect her.
It was a fast movement the dog demon made when he took out his sword. The truth was that there were more demons than other times, much more. Sayuri realized that Naraku didn’t use to send so many subordinates at once, not such an overwhelming quantity, of course. It was evident that Naraku had detected them since the beginning.
'Look, I do not have the minimal interest in fighting you right now, but I've already wasted too much time and these demons are only here to take more time from us.' - She said now with a serious expression on her face.
Little by little the horde of youkai started dividing in two groups. Sayuri was surprised, since the demons of this level used to be very stupid and the idea of separating in two groups was not proper of them.
'They're getting more and more intelligent with the time.' - She commented before facing Sesshomaru once again. - 'You’re not the weak type of demon, ok I admit it, but you know this time things won’t be that easy.'
Sayuri made a little break, faced the demons for a brief moment and looked back at Sesshomaru.
'I'm not asking for an alliance, but I do ask you for collaboration.'
It was time to hide the stubbornness, to hide who they were and what they were defending. That time they were egalitarian beings and had to cooperate as such. The female demon closed her eyes and put her hands together until a white sphere appeared between them. The wind started waving Sayuri's silver hair and the hilt of a sword came out of the sphere. Without even blinking, the albino dog demon grabbed the hilt and pulled strongly, summoning her sword Gesshoku.
‘Let’s cooperate for this time.’ – She finally said before looking back at the youkai horde and adopting a defensive position.

Sesshomaru kept a close eye on the enormous numbers of youkai breaking up into two groups. Even though these youkai were weak, even Sesshomaru had to admin that they were getting stronger and it wouldn't be as easy as before. He knew that he would have to ally himself with the dog demon at least for the time being. There were thousands of youkai and Sesshomaru would never admit it, but even he needed some help with this. He decided to ally himself with the female dog demon for now. He readied himself to fight off the incredible horde of youkai that were headed towards them. He looked over to the dog demon quickly.
"I'll ally myself with you for the time being." Sesshomaru said in his normal tone but he was more nice then he had been.
He looked back at the youkai that had split themselves into two groups. It was almost like they were trying to flank the two by splitting into two groups. It mattered not what they did because with in no time they would all be dead. Sesshomaru had a lot of confidence in himself and he could sense that his new found ally was quite strong as well. He knew with her help it would make this much easier but it still left the fact that this was just a way for Naraku to get out of their grasp even farther. He looked back at the dog demon for a second. He didn't even know the name of his new found ally and was going to do something that he didn't normally do and he was going to ask what her name was.
"Dog demon! What's your name?" Sesshomaru asked bluntly
